So I did my oil change , added 2.35 liters first the oil was at the top of the sight glass but I ran the engine a bit and the level went down to the middle. should I top it off or will this be enough oil.

    Thanks

Your sight glass should have two marks indicating acceptable range, so you can run it where it is at. It may be better to add a bit of oil until the level is very near the top of the sight glass, leaving just a bubble. That gives you a better visual reference for oil level changes. If it drops, you'll know you are using oil. If it raises (will only be noticeable when the bike is on center stand) then you will know that your carbs are leaking and you have gas in your oil.

Make sure its on the center stand and that the bike is level when your checking the oil. There should be a small line cast into the casing on the right top side of the sight glass. I keep my oil level right at that mark, and have never had any problems with it.

We are talking xj650 - 2.35 with no filter change and 2.65 with filter - unless its an RJ which is 2.65 and 2.95 with filter. Level ground...Top up to the top of sight glass. When you ran the bike the oil circulates - If you leave it for 10 mins the oil may drain back down somewhat...however, low oil will trigger the warning light quicker. Thats assuming no leakage....
