So my 700x died on the side of the hiway, and just wouldnt start back up, so I in all my infinite wisdom deside to push start it. Nice big down hill stretch in front of me, so I push with all my might like a Bob sled team, as fast as I can possible go and then jump on to let out the clutch..... Prob is my foot gets stuck on the sissy bar and I just plain dont make it...So there I am hopping on 1 foot down the middle of the hiway, desperately trying to keep the bike up, finally get both legs down and catch up to the bike and get her under control. (note to self, change pants when I get to work) Anyhow ends up all I needed to do was put the petcock on pour to refill the carbs and she started right up and ran into town on reserve.....Doh!!!!Way too close for me.........

Running out on the main tank sucks, especially on an MX bike while you're 30' in the air over a set of triples......

They certainly were, and mainly still are mate. I was born and brought up in Nottingham itself, and only moved out this way in 2005, first off Blidworth and then to here in 2009. I used to ride the same roads as youi've mentioned on my RD 350 until I got the Kwak Z650 in 79, and then rode them on that.

I had my bike run out of gas in the middle of a roundabout once. I don't think the guy behind me in the Cadillac Escalade was too impressed. thank god for the reserve....

That happened to me, sorta - my V-Star 1100 had a "dead" battery, no hill, so I work up a bunch of steam (5MPH) I planned to hit first gear when my butt hits the seat, I jump and the left saddlebag lid blocks my right foot which goes to the bottom, and I'm hopping down the street trying not to wreck !

No witnesses 8) It fired up on the second try.

How do you forget about reserve? i don't understand...

I can almost predict when i'm going to start sputtering within 10 km of it doing it.

I was screwing around and seeing how far it would go without hitting reserve, when it died I put it on reserve, but I am guessing that because the carb bowls were empty it wouldnt start, hence the prob... I finally turned it to flow and it started right up, turned it to reserve and then had no more probs. Stoopid is as stoopid does...

I've done it twice. The first time I ran out of gas I sat on the side of the road trying to find the problem for about ten minutes before I figured it out, put it on reserve and drove off.
The second time I knew what the deal was immediately.

funny how the simplist thing can be a close call for tipping your bike over, i was at a set of lights and being the tight ar#e i am spotted a 10 cent piece near my foot, started dragging it closer to pick up and thought better of it as the balance started to change as i bent over to get it,

Did carb adjustments ( now pro @ removing & replacing ). Forgot to put back vac tube. Ran like beast for about 1/2 mile (OOPS!!!). Scratched head for a while. Started pushing home. decided to check prime. Bike fired. Put on reserve. Ran out again at corner of house. Finally figured out I left off tube. Lesson learned.

Mine gives me forewarning several miles in advance the power gets all squishy and sluggish... reach under and rotate to reserve and the afterburners come back on.

Had a similar problem, pretty embarassing... Going up a hill and the bike starts missing (WTF?). Lame duck going through intersection... Check plugs, ok... Wait in parking lot 5 minutes and it starts again! Head home and it stalls by another lights... Push it home only to realize I was out of gas and never thought of reserve! OOPS!

Another thing I notice is that my idle starts to climb as one of the carbs was running low on fuel, sure enough pull away and bike is lame... Flip to reserve and wheeze, cough, cough, vroom!
