starter cluch replace

how hard is it to replace starter cluch , can i get to it after generator is out

 

I'm pretty sure you have to split the cases to replace the starter clutch

 

Yep. You can't get to it from behind the alternator. You can see the back of it, and that's it.

How positive are you that the starter clutch itself is bad? The symptoms can be caused by simply using the wrong oil; or a weak starter, low battery or wiring issues.

What bike?

 

1982 750 xj ,useing 20w50 valvoline motorcycle oil 4t stroke , starter spins with 100amp jumpstart battery charger , i watched it when i had cluch cover off , disabled ignition & try to crank over , starter engages then kicks out, like cluch is not holding ,and starter spins

At this point in the Season; replacing the Starter Clutch --> along with several other parts in a prudent preventative maintenance measure, ... will likely cost you close to what obtaining a whole replacement Engine costs.

If the Mission is, ... "Ride"
Then, ... grabbing one of the 3 Engines available on Ebay ...
Search Ebay: XJ750 Engine ...

Might be a option for you to consider.
