I don't get it, is that something to do with top speed? Up here in "warm now" Ontario, Canada:

    Registration: 45/year
Insurance: 820 (down from 920 last year, 3rd year riding, 37 years old).
    Gas: Currently around 1.25/litre
from 10-20-30-40 over they fines pretty much double, at 50 over it's considered racing and that goes with vehicle confiscation and potentially huge fines...

I believe Police have the odd speed traps and radar in the car, you should see me tapping my helmet sometimes! :p Definitely seems like all the economical advantages are negated by all the fines/fees and f-overs that go with the privilege of riding a bike.

I don't understand. Are you giving the fines for speeding? If so, how is going a slower speed such a larger fine? And wow! Your registration is nothing but highway robbery!

    My operating costs:
Registration, title, and license fees: $83 for the year ( 83/12 = $6.91 per month)

    Insurance: $13 per month

    Gas: $3.80 / gallon, roughly (19.6mi to work, round-trip, making estimated 40mpg = 0.49g per day, or $1.86 per day in gas. 16 shifts per month * 1.86 = $29.76 per month)

    TOTAL: $49.67 per month

For myself, because I'm on a 125cc at the moment it's cheaper. Insurance with the wife on as well, is £120 for the year, MOT £25, Tax £16, petrol is, at moment, £1.44 per litre, fill tank for about £10, which does 140+ miles. :D

When I get 550cc up and running, insurance for myself will be £230, MOT £30, Tax about £25, to fill her up around £20, which will get me, again, estimate, about 50-60 miles. :(

sorry should have checked my typing!

up to 15 kilometres per hour over the limit is $93.00 and over 45 kilometres per hour is $1915

By registration I mean this is the basic minimum the Govt makes you have - made up of Govt charges and a 3rd party injury component

yearly registration is $84 I think but my plates expire at the end of october so I don't bother renewing until may-june so I only pay about $25 for the partial year, insurance is $13 monthly (basic pl-pd and $1000000 liability) I don't have theft or collision because it gets unaffordable really fast especially on a sport bike and gas here is $1.16-$1.30 per litre(approx $4.65 per gallon) I don't know what the chart is for tickets but a couple years ago I got caught at 84 in a 60 zone and I think the ticket was about $250

Oooh, this is gonna be fun!! People always get appalled when the see fees and fines we have to live with in Norway...

First of all, let us start with the one-time fee that cuts in BEFORE YOU EVEN BUY THE VEHICLE! Engine effect and volume will demand (approximately) $4200 each, then comes another, undeclared fee of $1678. A whopping $10000 + purchase tax of 25% on top. (I've used my own bike as an example, treating it as new from 01.01.2012)

After that, you have to pay a yearly fee of $295.

Since I bought the bike pre-owned, I had to pay $256 to transfer the registration to myself. Had I bought a 2011 or 2012 bike pre-owned, I'd have to pay $431...

Price of gas (95 octane) is $2.35...

Speeding fines: lowest starts at $100. Can go up to $1500 for a single breach (considered a misdemeanor unless speed exceeds 50% of allowed speed)...

xj650ss if you let your bike go that long in Ontario with out renewing the plates they make you redo the MOT safety. Over four months a safety has to be done here.

Mines pretty much the same as Ken's and everything cost more in Aust. compared to the US but our wages are much higher and if your sick you can go to the Dr for free.
Glad I dont live in Norway, though all those tall blonde girlies would help me adjust.
And here in Queensland 45k over the posted limit will mean loss of licence and probable jail time.
Depending on state you also have to have a Rego inspection annually.
Also here[Qld] you can lower your rego cost by limiting your bike to a single seater.

$110.00 included title xfer, registration (annual), and sales tax (which I don't think should happen for used vehicles)

$231 for insurance (plpd) for 1 year

$3.89 US per gallon for regular gas

I have no idea about traffic fines as I have not had a ticket in 20+ years. I don't think of it as an operating expense I think of it as a penalty for being unaware enough to speed in the view of a police officer.

No one has mentioned maintenence costs. So far this year around $400.

Amen to that. I pay $95/month and I can't believe it's that low! 26 years old/3 years riding, few minor infractions still kicking around on my record.

Yikes, I don't feel so bad paying just over $500. 36 / 4 years riding, one writeoff within 7 years (My old Grand-Am R.I.P.)

Statefarm quoted me like 1500 for a year lol I actually told the rep, you guys are WAY off base.
