    Hi all,
Went to start my bike and noticed fuel leaking out of the transmission output shaft. Drained the oil and about 1/2 gallon of gas came out with it. I just bought needle and seat kits to replace the old ones. The originals have little screen caps on them. The new ones don't have this. Am I better off using the new needles and and old seats or just running the new seats filterless?

Use the new stuff. But your carbs are flooding which means you need to set the float height using the clear tube method.

Sometimes the screen will fit on the new seats. A pen knife on the edge will pop them off. I like using them when possible, some don't.

    You need - -
$6.00 Briggs & Stratton inline fuel cut-off valve.
    Petcock rebuild kit
    inline fuel filter
    new fuel line
    shop manual
    new helmet
    rear brake shoes
    fuse box
    complete front brake rebuild

that's the short list  8O

I know the needle and seats are bad, which is why I bought 4 rebuild kits. The old seats have a flange on the end that the filter baskets snap on to. The new ones don't have this flange. Once I get it all together, I plan to use the clear tube to set the float height. My petcock was always set to the right, which I understand leaves all that fuel forcing the floats up. I have never had the bike run correctly on reserve or primary, so I am going to rebuild that valve, the diaphragm looked thing when I had it apart.

After replacing the needle and seat in all 4 carbs, it runs awful at idle. I checked with a clear tube and the level is really low. I have to use the choke to bring the rpm up and find the sweet spot between it stalling and the motor free revving to the moon. Guess its time to drop the bowls and reset the float levels.

Those "No Beenie" Float Valve Seats can be temperamental.

    Dress the Bores.
Roll a tight "Cigarette" of 2000 Finishing Paper.
Cut-off the bottom ... Straight and Level.

Twist it into the Seat-bore and Re-finish the Inside Diameters.
Do all the bores as a prevent to having a stuck float.
