I recently purchased a 1982 XJ750. When I purchased it it would turn over but not start. Since then I have replaced the spark plugs fuses and battery. Now I have nothing. I am almost certain that the problem is electrical. The lights will work intermitantly if the wires on the fuse block are moved. Also on the fuse block the left side wires have been cut from the fuse connection at both ends. Does anyone have a breakdown of what each of the four fuses goes to? Or does anyone have some advice on what it might be.

Sounds to me like it's time for you to upgrade that fuse box, The original glass tube fuse holders, after 30 years, degrade and become brittle.

You need to get your hands on a service manual as well, specifically you need to have a wiring diagram so you can see what colour wire goes where.

Spreky- In case you're interested, I've got a wiring harness ('82 Seca 750) for sale. Lots of stuff still plugged in to it. $45 shipped. Let me know.

Ryan, don't worry about the middle gear, there is no fill plug. The middle gear area will fill with oil as the engine runs. And in the future, leave that plug alone, there is no real need to drain that part of the engine.

Yes Ryan, LVSteve is correct. Leave the middle gear oil plug alone. Very easily stripped out and it's hard to get to anyway.
