update: First setback. I need to somehow limit my front fork travel about 3 inches to prevent it from hitting the intercooler. There is one pic of the suspension fully compressed. see pics below. turbo in preliminary spot, header construction will start soon once i get the collector jog finished and build the collector. gonna be a tight fit.

    Any thoughts?

Cosmetics: not much for now. It might be cool to incorporate the seca turbo front lower fairing but i dont think thats possible. too tight. im getting some non bullhorn handlebars. Perhaps a headlight chrome cap. And eventaully powdercoating the frame. Any recommendations?

Here is a small update of header progress. Doesnt look like much but its getting there. Very tight clearances to work with.

    oh la la

just a thought, this would be a good bit of work, but perhaps a small bit of raking to add more room?

I was thinking the same thing then got down to your post schooter..
A little more rake might help keep that front end on the ground when you hit half throttle
Looks really neat farmer I am impressed to say the least..
Is there another xj or yamaha that has the same diameter tube but in a longer length that you could install into your down tubes then use a spacer to take up the extra length up top so you would still have the travel the front would just sit up higher?????
I don't know just throwing ideas out :)

    Good Luck,
    James

ok, slow going but the header is almost tacked in place. not the best pics. have 1 runner left to do. very tight clearances, more pie cuts that i would have liked, tried to keep using mostly mandrels. will look better once tigged as i used the mig to tack it. the runner on the left of the first pic i need to massage a little more yet, but its getting there.

the main thing is that it fits in place. then i have to modify the vnt actuator to work in reverse, as well as rig up something to relocate it as it will not fit on the stock bracket.

    getting there!

Just a quick view of all 4 runers tacked from the front looking through the forks.

There's a shop near me that sells degree rake kits, here is the web site.
They have 9,14 and 18 degree kits for Virago, same front end as XJ.

Thats a cool idea for the rake kit.

However, I managed to make it just clear, and my next thought is using a maxim x front end to get the larger 38mm shocks and factory fork brace.
Then hopefully fit turbo xj wheels all around if I make it that far.

Slow progress as usual my welder is out of town.
But here is the header off the bike....

Not easy but possible to do, thanks for showing that.
How far off is it from equal lengths? (Tuned header)

A piece of string with a nut tied to the end dropped down each pipe till it touched the turbo rotor would give you a rough idea of the exhaust path length.

    Thumbs up Farmer, good work.

    I'm a welder, wish i was there.

Havent been on in probably over a year since today and I see my thread is still on the first page.

No progress as of yet, hope to get back it again this summer.
Just acquired a Maxim X front end and triple tree, im hoping that will bolt right into the front frame. Anyone know if the seca turbo 650 front wheels brake spacing will work with the maxim x forks and and brake caliper spacing? will the rotors line up with the calipers?

    thanks
    will keep posting update.

Should do if the wheels are the same size.

yearly update. finally found time to work on this more. header almost complete. oil cooler bracket made and oil cooler mounted.
now just need custom braided oil cooler lines and make an oil return and it should be ready for a test fire.!
hopefully this summer will be on the road.
