Ok, a little embarrassing, but I thought I had a high idle problem. Full clean job on carbs, then thinking I had to replace throttle boots. Anyway, spent the better part of 2 days reading everything I could find on this site about what I should do.
    And...
    Found this posting which mentions:
When I first bought the bike, I adjusted the idle just after the engine started and before I had fully derusted tank, changed fuel, cleaned carbs, burned out the carbon.

It might be important to emphasize to others having the "high idle" problem, that it could be they just need to adjust idle when the engine is hot.

Now she purrs all the time, and only needs a little choke love to start on cooler days.

I had that same problem. I first got my Maxim 650 and read about idle adjustment. I figured "Ha! I'll fix that stalling problem on a cold engine!" I got the idle at about 1000rpm after roughly 30 seconds on choke, then went for a ride. I shouldn't have been surprised when the idle was 3-4000rpm once the engine was hot.
