Hello all. I bought an 82 xj maxim for two bills a few weeks ago and am trying to get her going. A little about me I ride a 97 sporty bobbed out and this yamaha is the forth bike I ve ever had. I don't drive a car only ride but I'm in so cal so I'm able to do that.

I hear you on that. theres plenty of info on these bikes. Luckily they seem pretty simple. Mine hasn't been fired up in years. and whoever had it before me definitely messed with it alot. Plenty of home made wiring connections. But hey you get what you pay for.

Yea there not to tuff to work on. parts are readily available (except that d@mn square headlight(Seca). I would recomend you get a new complete harness if it looks like its been jerry rigged to bad. The wiring on my (titled) bike is an absolute nightmare( the damn "parts" bike is in better condition, But im just gonna install the new harnes complete and be done with it. O, and i learned QUICKLY via our forum peeps here...change out the fuse box...its worth it. I have more aluminuim foil in the fuse box than in my house lol.

@mtnbikecrazy thanks brother I appreciate it. @beastie I already tossed the fuse box. I don't know if it was stock though. Very cheaply made though. the guys who had it before me threw on some chobese plastic chrome headlight and the gas tank is rusted beyond belief. Im going to have to turn it into a bobber because it's missing alot but has enough to run. Ill have to post pics later today.

Welcome from PA! Check brake line date codes there only good for 3 years. Rear brake for delamination. Replace Fusebox. Valve clearences. off the top of my head. Not shure but I thought I read that theres a car replacement for the headlight... any way welcome.

Welcome from VA! Read some of the threads on here and you will get an idea of what all needs to be checked and gone through. Nice find on a bike for that price.
