Did you drain the oil after you got the bike? When the float valves leak the fuel goes into the oil. It overflows the carbs spills into the intake and goes into the nearest piston with an open intake valve. This leads to an overfill situation where the fuel/oil can be pushed back into the airbox through the vent tube. So the oil must be changed along with the filter when you do the float valves.
Another problem is that the petcock has to leak in order for the fuel to overflow the carbs and fill the crankcase unless it has been left in the "PRI" position. So you need to fix that too.
It is also common for the floats to stick if the carbs needed to be opened. So a gentle tapping with the handle of a screwdriver may jar the floats loose and allow the valves to close.

Joby, DO NOT start the bike until you drain the oil/gas mixture and fix the petcock or carb problem. It doesn't take much gas in the oil before the oil starts to break down and no longer have lubricating properties. If you run the bike much, there is a good chance of doing major damage.
