Carb Intake Boots...Need a quick fix

    My Carb Intake Boots are starting to crack. Seeing the age of the bike it is getting hard to find parts. Does anyone have a quick fix for this? I was thinking about using some sort of high temp silicone, and electrical tape? I dont know my minds just thinking...thoughts??

    I have had these cracks on past XJ's, but they didn't go all the way through, I suppose you could slather on some HT silicone, but I wouldn't worry about air leaks, the rubber is too thick.

    Whenever I pull the clutch in the bike it revs super high! So it is either getting to much air from the pods or sucking in through the carb boots

    As for the boots:
    I bought a bicycle inner tube and cut pieces to fit, then stretched them over the boots. I didn't use any RTV, but others have. I like the looks of the inner tube rubber better than the electrical tape.

    Liquid electrical tape also works, just not the cleanest job.

    You can use the inner tube method with liquid electrical tape, permatex, etc. or you can just put them on plain like I did.

    I covered mine with RTV (thin coat) then rapped them with eletrical tape. I worked great and unless you look close you don't even see it.

    wow! i never thought of that, i was putting a little high tmp silicone on and just gave u and figured id buy new, but their like 250 for the boots gaskets and whatnot.. ill deffinatley silicone them and put inner tube over for the clean look, thanks!

    Mine are ripped almost halfway around the circumference of the boots,any time I use RTV the combination of heat and fuel eat it up.. I've been using bicycle inner tubes and hose clamps but I think they may be too far gone.. this liquid electrical tape stuff is it solvent -resistant?
