When I bought my XJ700N the previous owner decided to drill holes into the end of the mufflers right into the baffles. I guess he wanted to make it sound louder. I think it sounds worse. Sadly the mufflers are in excellent condition, to bad they ruined them. Does any know of replacement exhaust or slip on mufflers that do not require rejetting the carbs. I just spent $300.00 to have them cleaned and synced. Any help would be great.

    Thanks, Yamakzi

I believe the consensus is that any slip on will not require rejetting so long as you leave to collector intact

I hope the guys you paid the money to checked the valve clearances first.

Slip-ons of various styles are widely available; and the most that should be required might be some tweaking of the mixture screws, if you retain the collector box.

Back to the valves: if the valve clearances have been neglected and the shop didn't check them, DO IT before your next post is "bike won't start once warm."

How many miles on the bike? Valves were supposed to have been checked at 3000 miles, and every 5000 thereafter. How close to disaster are you?
