I have removed the carbs, boiled & cleaned them.
Re-fitted them & tested.....a bit better......still getting fuel in the sump, running very rough with black plugs (new).

Removed carbs (2nd time), cleaned with carby cleaner & repaired 2 diaphragms. Adjusted float heights.
Re-fitted them & tested.....a bit better.....still getting fuel in the sump, running ok-isk, plugs still black.

Removed carbs (3rd time), removed all jets , emulsion tubes, mixture screws (washer missing from #3), "choke plungers", used 2 cans of carby cleaner & compressed air, ultrasonic cleaned. Re-shimmed valves, bought colourtune plug, new valve cover gasket & donuts, rebuilt petcock, replaced 2 slide diaphragms & passed "clunk test" & running sync at shop with digital guages.
Re-fitted them & tested......a bit better......still getting fuel in the sump,
still running only ok-ish with sooty plugs. Colourtune would not change colour (yellow) with mixture screw adjustment.

Removed carbs (4th time), completely stripped everything, all passages cleaned with carby cleaner & compressed air & welding tip cleaning kit.
Replaced all rubber o-rings & throttle shaft seals, fuel inlet needles & seats & changed screws to allen key heads (all parts from chacal).
Re-fitted them & tested.....started easily with choke. It took a while to warm up, but once I went for a short ride & adjusted the idle screw, I had it idling at 1100 RPM. This was a lot better than previous attempts. Still not completely smooth...but better. No fuel in the sump.
I left it a few days & tried the coulurtune plug. It was now a nice blue colour, but only changes marginally with adjustment to the mixture screws.
I did a running sync with a peice of clear tube & some two stroke oil (YICS not blocked). Runs a bit smoother (not popping in exhaust as much).

My question is, do I have to pull the rack again (5th time)?
Should I be able to change the colourtune plug from bright blue to orange on each carb with the mixture screws?

    Thoughts appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Tim

Have you done a VAC sync? If not you need to plug the YICS and get vacuum gauges and do a vac sync. If you don't the color tune alone wont get you anywhere. The two have to be done together. And you may have to do them a few times.

I did a vac sync with a manometer (clear 3m tube on a stick with 2 stroke oil in it). YICS was not blocked, but I'm in the process of manufacturing something to do this.
I won't get a chance to play with it this weekend, but maybe next week sometime I can have another go at it.
Does anyone else sync the carbs without the YICS blocked??

    Cheers,

    Tim

Do you know what YICS is and how it works?

Syncing without blocking yics is kind of similar trying to sip a drink through a long straw, only there is an open hole on the side of the straw.
Now I have read posts on here from people who have not blocked their YICS, but most of them are looking for advice on getting their bike to run right!

    Fair enough.

The bike seems to have a miss when its cold & choke off.
When the choke is on, it runs quite well.
I'll continue with the manufacturing of a YICS tool & try again.

    Cheers,

    Tim
