I thought I'd go start the Seca today, just to hear it and make myself feel better. The key turned, but then nothing happened.

I figured it was the switch. So, I went tearing into it. First fun fact - the headlight bucket is cracked. Not too bad, I can live with that. Second surprise - the driving light isn't connected to anything. Also, I don't see where it plugs in, but do see a couple cut wires, a black and a red. Hmm...

Then, there is a thin brown wire, also not connected to anything. Seems that goes to a switch cut into the handlebar cover. Clearly not factory, but not hooked up, so can't hurt anything.

Next, the gauge pod bracket is welded to the bolts with great big gobs of weld. Ugly, but serviceable and invisible. I can live with that.

Got the switch out, ripped it apart, cleaned, lubed, put together. Couldn't find the switch rebuild thread, but figgered it out. Switch works right now, left to lock fork, center off, right to run.

So I hook up the gauges, flick the key, hit the starter and... not a damned thing.

Thinking battery is dead pull cover and throw a charger on. Not a damned thing. BTW, something tells me that what goes into the rubber grommets of the tank from that panel isn't supposed to be a big sheetmetal screw.

So, flip up the seat, look at the fusebox, run my hand over it, wiggle wires and... voila - gauges light and I can start now. I knew it. Fusebox is on the list already.

Tomorrow I'll throw the gauges back on and put the lights back together. That black/red wire pair should be for the light, right?

Oh yeah. Forgot one thing. Also cleaned and lightly oiled the speedo cable. Speedo itself seems kinda squeaky, though.

Don't ya just love finding out all the "__rigs" that you find when you strip a bike down or in your case, just go searching for the cause of an issue? I've seen somethings that I thought were absolutely ingenious and others that seemed to be about the stupidest solutions I'd ever seen.

Glad you found what was ailing it......but it sounds like you might want to tear into it deeper to find and resolve all your "__rigs".

" something tells me that what goes into the rubber grommets of the tank from that panel isn't supposed to be a big sheetmetal screw."

    ROTFLMAO......

My all-time favorite was a small-grapefruit-sized gob of silicone in place of a $3.99 rubber grommet around an oil filler tube on a van I used to have. I found out about it about a week after buying the van when it started putting out clouds of smoke big enough to make the National Weather Service take notice from the oil pouring on the exhaust manifolds out of this "repair".

Oh, there is a lot more to fix on this puppy. I'm starting with the easy stuff.
