In a word, YES. That was the worst thing you could've done, when you fit pods or cone filters you open up a can of worms, it means rejetting, then trying it, rejetting, then trying it.

Just do a search for "pods", and you should find horrendus stories of people who have done this, and regretted it. There is no set formula for this, it's a matter of trial and error, which can be VERY expensive, and you may never ever get it right. Thes XJ's don't like it, and you can't improve on what the Yamaha guys did by fitting pods or cone filters. What was the reasoning for changing the stock airbox?

for what it's worth, dump the idea, get those things off, and get the factory fitted airbox back on, or face problems big time.

I'm sure BigFitz will be along shortly, to give you advice

Well to honest with you i relocated at the time that i was rebuilding the bike and as my luck always bites me in the ass i misplaced the airbox and for the love of me i couldn't find it.I live in Cape Town South Africa and i've seached everywhere for a airbox but with no luck could not find one. If that doesn't work what would your advise be on maybe putting flatslide carbs on? Could that be a better option perhaps?

anything except standard airbox will mean rejetting to a greater or lesser degree - As far as I know, hopefully, either Fitz or one of the other more knowledgable gurus on here, will be along to advise you better than I can.

Have you tried maybe looking on ebay to see if you can locate an airbox, chances are that if you do manage to locate one on there (I see them on there about once a month or so, sometimes more), you will be getting it from either the USA or europe, so will be waiting for a few days for it to arrive, though you might be lucky and find them in South Africa , or Australia/New Zealand.

I recently replaced my airbox with the pods and had pretty good luck. I bought a jet kit on ebay which consisted of a 130 main jet, 2 washer spacers for the needle and drilling out the mixture screw on the top of the carb. I have the 750 Maxim though. I was willing to do pretty much anything to not have to take out that airbox again.

Pods = re-jet, but it CAN be done. You could also fab a custom airbox, just depends on your imagination and skill.
