I have a 82 xj750 bought half assembled and some small wires in the headlight bucket are not connected. I have tried reading the diagram but got a little confused. Cold someone tell me how they are connected or post a picture please?

My thoughts but wait for others to chime in:
Green/yellow wires are for the front brake switch. Plug them together
Blue/yellow wires are for the clutch saftey switch. plug them together alo.
This is the one I'm not sure about.
The three other wires go to the front turn signals. The double terminal is ground or running lights. The two others are right and left signal.

I dunno. On the 550s and 650s the clutch switch wires are in a two-connector plug.

Don't guess, get a wiring diagram.

There should be one in your SERVICE MANUAL.

I just got my manual and traced all the lines and connected all but two. The diagram says that the brown wire and green/yellow wire are the front brake switch, but the green has been taped down. Is there any reason for this?

Also, according to the diagram, the wires plug into respective colors but for the clutch switch I only have one of each blue/yellow and black/yellow male and female connectors. Should they go together? Thanks

Depending on model and selling market. Some bikes have extra wires. (Ie "city lights" for European cities than don't allow headlights inside BRIGHT city limits).

Besides that you never know what prior owners rewired.

Black/yellow and blue yellow are used on my 82 750 for the clutch switch. connect together in headlamp bucket to bypass the clutch switch.

Its possible your clutch switch is missing, trace wires.small lead activated by a small micro switch open when clutch lever pulled. otherwise closed.

wires from this switch are in corresponding colours and have male / female connectors.
