im mounting a xj550 in a golf cart, and was wondering if the xj engines have
any certain angle they have to be at, for oil pick up.

can i build a pan for a rear sump..?

any information is greatly appreciated, or if this is just an asinine question.

    100 MPH golfing??

The sump surface is basically level (stock) and the engine gets oil under HARD acceleration, which would roughly similate a 40* angle (guess) and needs oil under hard braking, too.

At issue is the carb float bowl, so if you can't mount the engine "level", you may need to get creative with float levels to compensate.

And in case you don't know, you should plan on using the stock airbox with the inlet restriction, and don't run a wide-open exhaust. You'll need a little fan blowing on the motor. Check your valve clearances, too.

You'll just burn it up eventually. A golf cart won't generate sufficient airflow to properly cool that motor.

I agree with Fitz - you can't put an XJ motor under the seat, in a closed box.

Header wrap will help alot, and so will a MASSIVE oil cooler, like just use a tranny cooler. Too big of a fan will suck the alternator/battery dry. You get 19 amps @ 5,000 RPM and ZERO amps at idle.
