so my 81 seca 750 has no light from the head light. i put power to it and it works but not through the harness. Is there a relay for my headlight because the switch only has hibeam and low beam no on off. does it turn on when the engine is running and is on all the time or am I missing a switch somewhere? any help would be awsome! thanks so much for the help

I believe it comes on when the key is turned on. Have you checked the fuses and connections?

    Yes there is a relay.

There is also a seperate fuse. (Have you check the FRAGILE/Brittle original 30 fuse panel yet? - See my signature post to see how easy it is to replace).

SOME XJ headlights only come on when the engine is running. (I'm not sure about your model).

Seca 750 headlight will only come on when there's current coming from the alternator (engine start)

IF it doesn't, you could have alternator, or diode block problems, or old fuseboxitis ;)

The problems that are being alluded to in regard to the original fusebox are not the fuses.

The original clips crystallize and break all on their own.

On the XJs with the relay-op headlight, it's a "latching relay." The headlight won't turn on until the engine starts; BUT once it is on, it will stay on, even if the engine stalls, until you turn the key off.
