    I'm FINALLY going to do my carbs. I have been slowly been buying some tools/parts, but this week I ordered a bunch more and will order carb parts once I crack open a rack.

    I'm going to list everything I have/bought. Please tell me if I forgot anything that I'm going to NEED or WANT on hand.

    * Parts Bike and 2 more carb racks
    * muffin pans and/or similar containers with lids
    * KROIL
    * Aux Gas Tank
    * YICS Eliminator
    * Carb Cleaner Gallon with Basket and spray cans
    * JIS Screw drivers set
    * Torque Wrenches (both sizes)
    * SS Allen Head external carb screws ordered
    * Spare used Carb-Airbox boots
    * Spare used Carb-Engine boots (just ordered on ebay)
    * Dental style picks
    * Gasket remover (brush on)
    * Paint strippers
    * Other Degreasers/Cleaners
    * Brake cleaner spray cans

    Just ordered from Chacal
    * Fuel line (2') to use as fuel level gauge
    * Color Tune 14mm
    * Carbtune (Didn't want to make something)
    * YICS Port Clean out tools
    * SS wire bristle brushes (also good for MC rebuild)
    * Cleaning wire tool set
    * Starter jet hole drill bit
    * Float height ruler (didn't want to make something)
    * Needle file set

    I didn't order/buy a 3 stone hones yet. I know local stores sell them. I also didn't buy any finishing papers yet. Anti-seize and thread locker are also available locally.

    I may not get the outside of the carbs perfectly beautiful (I want to ride again by the end of JULY), but I want to inside to be perfect and clunking! (Need to re-read that post to see what else I might need).

    You need the EXACT carb screwdriver for the job. If you haven't already got it contact Len. Believe me those screws are easily butchered!

    You don't need to use a stone-type hone to clean-up and polish the carb piston bores - - see what 1,000 grit and WD-40 will do for you first.

    Thanks I'll give that a TRY. I think I even have 1000 and finer in my paint supply tub.

    See what a RAG and SOLVENT (Berryman's B-12, the "Kroil" of carb cleaners) will do before applying ANY ABRASIVE anywhere inside a carburetor. I've never, ever in 40+ years used anything but various solvents.

    Personally, I'm not an advocate of drill bits either. Nothing "harder" than brass and 'pot' metal. I use bristles plucked from my big parts cleaning brush.

    Oh, and the "brush in cap" gasket remover is NOT the same, nasty, politically incorrect stuff as the spray. I found it to be an "epic fail" to quote my offspring. Stick to the spray (while you can still get it.)

    Just speaking from experience...

    I find a bunch of little containers to be confusing so I made a couple of these, keeps everything organized and visible.

    I'd like to do this in the winter -- do you have a cost for the current parts list / expected parts list?

    I just rebuilt mine. Len did outstanding getting me what i needed. I also recommend a liquid medicene surenge. (sorry typo's) I used it to clear the tiny passages with water. it worked nice. also I used a flashlight, a bright led one to shine into the holes to look at how clean they were. I have a dremel tool I used the polishing set to polish the vacuum piston bore. I just got to put the carbs in my homemade stand and check feul levels then install on bike for syncing and color tune. Dont forget to check you valve clearences.

    A silicone grease that is great for O-rings and the like is Dow Corning #4 (known in short as DC4). It's also a dielectric grease so it's multipupose. Similar to vaseline, but its not. It comes in a forest green tube like toothpaste.
    You also need the special screwdriver Len sells for the idle jet. If you mess up a jet using this screwdriver then you got issues (none of which are mechanical). I have one and it works great!!!
