Hey all! Let me start by saying how I got to this point. My bike was laid over by a previous owner. Ignition cluster was shoved off sideways, and it broke the ignition barrel off the housing which was causing a short on my tail light and kept the front signals from lighting. So I took it all apart, drilled out the broken mounts added some longer screws and got it mounted back on and working perfectly.

Got it all reassembled, checked it all out and it was all working perfect. Hoped on went down the road and the left blinker come on solid. Cluster light is on, and both front and rear are lit. The right blinker works fine, front and rear. Everything else on the cluster is working as it should, so I'm starting to think I may have caused some grounding issue when I had it all apart.

So last night I pulled the headlight off, took all the connections apart and cleaned them all up and used dialectic grease when I put them back together. Still have the same problem. So I'm hoping maybe somebody has ran into a similar issue, and might be able to suggest where to look next. I'm going to feel stupid if its just a bulb issue...lol but that is one thing I have yet to change, just because they all light up so I expected that wasn't the issue.

Hey Free-which model do you have? Some models have turn signals that also serve as running lights and some only act as blinkers. Knowing the model & year might help to identify the problem. Good luck.

Haha....good point there wwj750! It's an 86 XJ700, and the turn signals do serve as running lights as well. Although I know they light up in the front, I'm not sure if the act as running lights in the rear. If they do, then it is a burnt bulb. As the right rear flashes, but does not light otherwise.

Well my bulbs are good, no burnt fuses. It appears it has to be a short somewhere. Hopefully once I take it apart again I will be able to find it easily. Got to be somewhere up in the cluster I'm guessing.

Well just as an update for the next person that could run into the same issue, and searching the forums like I did to come up with nothing.

My problem turned out to be in the red plug that connects to your instrument cluster. It was just corroded and needed a good cleaning. Once done it corrected the issue. So hopefully this will give the next potential person a place to start looking if other things fail. :)
