I've been looking for JIS screwdrivers to use on my carb cleaning adventure. Seems like everything I see is Phillips style. Is this what I will need? I was thinking I needed a flat blade. Also, where is the best place to get these?

JIS screwdrivers are phillips style only. Our parts supplier Chacal has them, PM him for prices.
I have a set from McMasterCarr, item #53325A61. Its a set of 3.

JIS screwdrivers fit out metric screws much better then our standard phillips.

You will also need the special flat tip driver(s) for the jets. Chacal also supplies these. Ordinary flat tip drivers can mangle the jet

That's what I thought and was worried about. But I never see JIS flat tip screwdrivers listed. I'll look at a couple of links suggested, and then make my own I guess.

Go to Natchez.com or midwayusa.com, under gunsmith tools lookup screwdriver set.
Most sets will have all the flat blades you'll ever need

Sudco is wholesale only, no sales to the public. Mikunioz, as the name implies, is in Australia, so calling them from US is a little problematic, and their web store isn't fully functional.

Although, it's nice to know the toolkit exists. Maybe a shop can order form Sudco. But then, there will probably be markup.

The small set will not. I have one.

The real gunsmiths grind their own flat screwdrivers to fit the screws they are working on anyway. :)

I will aspire to be that hardcore. :D I need a decent grinder, though. All I got is a Dremel.

So, on a somewhat related note, how important is it to have that "barrel" around the blade?

Try a drywall screw bit or a #1 phillips with 1/16 filed/ground of the end as square as you can get it.
