I know the 650 seca I had hates pod filters but how about the Maxim? Trying to find OEM airbox to keep it stock but if pods work I just might use the ones that came with it.
    Thanks,
    Ken

It's CV carbs that don't like pods. Maxim or seca doesn't matter.

Some have claimed to have had success with pods. I have not tried.

Do you have a stock exhaust & collector box??

If I mess with PODS again I'll try adding "velocity stacks" and going to 122 Main jets as a starting point.

I have air boxes for sale in sale forum. For the right price I might sell a set of airbox-to-carb boots.

Fyi engine needs to come out to put airbox in.

I would do the velocity stacked pod method or make a custom airbox. Good luck with it and let us know how it goes.

Forum member Hogfiddles created a method to install an airbox without removing the motor. Cant find the direct link right now, but Im gonna try it myself very soon. It involves a heat gun to make the plastic box pliable enough to squeeze it in. Hope it works...

XJ4ever at the top right has a catalog with jetting charts to guide you along.

How long would you extend the pod (stack out) to keep stock jetting, and with just PVC pipe?

I've heard that you should re-use the intake-to-airbox boots (that you don't have) because of the internal shape. Available used, on Fleabay.

Hey, been away for a bit. Missed this thread. Got a comparison pic in my signature.

I think besides the internal shape of the factory rubber there is something to the length and and diameter. The only thing connecting the magic airbox to the finickey carbs are the boots. Seems they are as important as the airbox, and since the airbox is removed, just as well keep the factory rubber.

Got the Carb boots. 4 extras even. So just attach Pods to the carbs, like usual?

Just noticed this post. I hope you didnt take your engine out to replace airbox lol. I was able to manuever mine out by simply removing the starter then just patience as you pull it out and turn it as you need to for clearance. For some reason its a bit more contrary going back in the same way but patience gets the job done.

Dan, you just made a lot of 750 owners smack their foreheads.LOL
Kenbo, you'll have some re-jetting to do. Some have big trouble with this, others don't. Look into Streetbrawler750's velocity stacked pod method.

I have an 82 650 maxim with pod filters on it. I still get 40 -45 miles to the gallon and still hit 70 mph in third gear. It idles at 1050 and smooth as a babys butt. I had to mess with the mixture screw alittle bit but it runs fine. I also did not have to take out the engine to remove the air box. remove the carbs and heat the box with a heat gun to make it alittle bit more flexable and it popped right out
