    Went for a little ride today. Started great first thing stopped at the gas station and after filling up bike acts like the battery is dead. Roll started and it fired right up. Got home and still acted dead, waited 5-10 minutes and she starts right up. Any idea what is going on?

    I kind of ran into the same issue today but mine started sputtering like 2 cylinders dropped off before it wouldnt start. I think my issue is one of the ignition coils because when they are bad they will work fine right away but when they heat up they die. It sounds like your battery might be the issue though, if its not that it could be both coils.

    For the OP:

    Start with the usual suspects:

    The battery itself; we suddenly have hot weather, when was the last time you checked the water levels?

    Wiring anywhere;

    Solenoid;

    Starter itself.

    In response to the response:

    Coils rarely suffer "thermal" issues as described; the pickups can though. Again, I'd suspect wiring first. "Cranky coil" issues tend to be humidity/moisture related.

    Speaking of batteries... how're your water levels?

    OK, so take it out, top it off and fully charge it. Then take it to the auto parts and have it load tested. Then and only then can you cross "battery" off the list.

    Of usual suspects.

    If my battery recommendation (taking it out and fully charging it) SEEMS to magically "cure" it for a few days but then the problem returns, it's time to pay a visit to the alternator brushes.

    Brushes are good checked them this spring when I had a no charge issue that ended up being from a corroded connector. I went through and cleaned all my connectors and replaced the old battery (old battery tested bad) this spring. I will pop it on the charger tonight and take the battery in for load test tomorrow.

    Cool. Once you cross "battery" off the top of the list,
