I mean to plug this into my last post but wanted to see if we'll have any representation at the AMA Vintage Days event at Mid-Ohio July 20-22. I bought my weekend and camping passes yesterday so aside from some minor maintenance on the bike I'm riding out, I'm all set.

I'm unfortunately, not riding my turbo out since at 450 miles each way, I would need assistance just being extricated from the bike when I arrived<LOL>. It's just too uncomfortable for me for a long trip. I will be riding my DL1000 out though and will be camping in the field (hell if it's hot out).

So, anyone else planning on going or already bought their passes? We've got a half dozen or so going out from the Kaw triples forum I belong to and the more, the merrier....they are a great group of stand-up guys that I wouldn’t be ashamed to introduce to any of my friends here. Well, not too ashamed<LOL>.

I’m also open to anyone that wants to ride out together or meet me along the way.

I posted this on Monday, now, 5 days later.....

Wow, I'll admit to being surprised that no one is going, when we have over 11K members, all of which own at least one vintage bike. I guess it's just the nature of this board. We have nearly a dozen guys, and gals coming from the Kaw triples board out of less than 750 total members, two on them from the UK and at least a couple each from the Vstrom and Yam Turbo boards....was hoping some here would be going too. Always good to meet new friends.

I'll going to try to make it there on the 20th but will more than likely come in on 4 wheels because I'm going with my dad and brother. Love the vintage dirt races and the swapmeet.

We are going to the Iron Madien concert up here in MI on the 18th and planned on taking the rest of week off since the 22nd is my birthday, it would be neat to check it out! Can you post a link?

Aww man that looks like fun. Went to Moto GP in Indy last year and was going to do another big trip this year but the bottom fell out of those plans. May have to try this one for next years trip.

It's a 22 hour drive for me, I don't think I can swing it, but it looks like fun. I guess if I got a divorce it would be possible...

Yeah, it's a 450 mile trip each way for me so I know that some guys have a wicked long way to go. I caught up on some neglected things-to-do on my Vstrom 1000 to get ready for the ride over this past weekend. I pulled the Vstrom into the parking space for my car in the garage, turned on the window shaker that I put out there a couple of summers ago to cool it down. I had installed an additional fusebox for my radar detector and aux running lights and a couple of other accessories but I had installed one from a ninja so I had to put in jumpers across some of the taps to make it work for me. I finally got a regular 8 lead box and installed it and rerouted all my accessories through it so it's properly wired. One of my 35W halogen bulbs on the running lights was turning on and off for no apparent reason so I took a trip to Autozone and bought a couple of replacements but they didn't have the 35's so I opted for the 55's instead. After installing them and separating them from the headlights, I checked the load to be sure that I was still in the "plus" column when I turned them on with the headlights....13.3 so I'm good to go. In fact, when I toggle the headlight switch to bring on the high and low beams, and tun on the aux lights, I was still at 12.75 but I doubt I'll run that way very long but it's good to know I can for a short while if I need to. I just need to take some time to re-aim them so the right side illuminates the shoulder and the left lights the road and doesn't blind oncomming drivers!

I also sync'ed the throttle bodies and lastly, opened the seat cover to put in some new padding to make the trip more comfortable. When I bought the bike new in 07, the seat was so uncomfortable for me, that I couldn't stand riding it more than 50 miles at a time. The repadding made a world of difference.

I rode it into work this morning to make sure everything is squared away. I even dug out my tent and little sleeping bag over the weekend so now, I'm officially ready for the trip!
    Now, I'm all set.

I got word over the weekend that Malcome and Rick Brett will be joining our group at the campgrounds from the UK. Rick as some know, has become thee word on anything Kaw triples. I think we have 5 or 6 camping spaces all together so far. Always room for more though so be sure to stop by and introduce yourself if you see my blue vstrom or hear those funny Englishmen<LOL>!
