    This is a new sound.
When the bike first fires up, it has a clatter sound from the cylinder head.
I only lasts for about a second of two, then it sounds great.
It sounds like it happens between the crank and the point were the bike is at an idle.
If you shut the bike off after a minute of running, then it fires and is at idle immediatly and no clatter at all.
    Should I be concerned?

It is likely not oiled at first.

What oil are you using? What is the oil level?

    Hi all
This might be a pointer it might not?
I had that once on a gs550 turned out to be a sticking camchain tensioner

The replacement Maxim engine in my Seca 400 is doing the same thing. I've been running a lower cost standard oil (Rotella) until I got it flushed out, but I'm going to switch to a synthetic with a lower bottom weight numbber that will hopefully flow better at lower temperatures.

I did a little shelf research at Wally World the other day, and noticed that Mobil has several Mobil 1 variations for higher mileage, performance vehicles, and diesels that do not have the "Energy Conserving" symbol, so they should work fine in our bikes. I think one of them has a 5w-50 range, or something like that. There's also a synthetic Rotella available.

I hope switching to one of them cures my clatter, as I can't handle hearing that racket coming out of my baby every morning! I'll keep y'all posted...

I had the tensioner out and cleaned it up.
When I put it back on, I stuck a screwdriver in and gave it an extra click.
Maybe I'll take it back out and let it reset on its own.
I think I've got Rotella oil in it.
It's new but I plan on changeing it out after I put some post refurb miles on it.
I'll probably go back to yamaLube.
Hopfully that will take care of it.
