Another forum I frequent has a bike of the month award thing going on. Basically you can enter your own bike, or nominate someone elses, and then then at the end of the month we (the users) vote using a forum poll for which bike we want to win.

There are no prizes other than forum kudos, and the only rules are that the bikes must belong to forum users, you have to have at least one picture, and you cannot submit your bike in consecutive months. So, you can enter in June, but not July.

At the end of the year we coiuld do a similar thing based on the monthly winners. So winning the monthly contsest means you get automatic entry into the yearly.

Anyone else think we should get the ball rolling on XJOM?

Thats not a bad idea but could I suggest you must be a forum member with a certain no. of posts and it not necessarily be an XJ but must belong to the member?
Obviously XJ's will get a certain handicap but if voted on by members it would even out.

I would suggest that since this IS an XJ forum, the bikes that are entered have requirement #1 be:

    1. the bike entered MUST be an XJ. Any XJ is eligible, and shall include any and all years and XJ models, including those that were Japanese-market-only.

    2. You MUST be a forum member with a minimum rank of "1st Gear" in order to vote.

    3. Now, for the rest of the rules......... TBD

Can you submit someone else's bike??

The voting mechanism will only allow 5 choices, so of the monthly submissions, someone has to create the voting thread with the 5 choices.

To make things more relevant/fair, one month could have bobbers, another month only dressed bikes, then naked secas - etc.

Definately has to be XJ bikes only, that's for certain.

I think the easiest way to do it would be to have a thread for entries, nominations, etc. And then do a seperate thread for the voting. If there's more than 5 entries we can do a tournament style shoot out.

If someone has the ability to put my most recent 900rk picture up, I'd appreciate it. I don't have online photo accounts, but it is in my gallery......

    Thanks,

Its pictures like that, that make me glad I will never compete on presentation.

I think I will stick to gadgets and modernization, there will never be a day I could present something that stunning.

gonnabuidit....Thank you much, I greatly appreciate it.

Darkfiber.... sure you can. fwiw, this bike was going to be parted out by the previous owner because he couldn't get it to run right, pass inspection, etc... This literally was a rescue. The trophy shown is actually the second First Place trophy it has now received. THAT'S sweet justice :)

I also have a Second Place trophy for an 83 650 Maxim (also in my gallery). That particular one was a well-used rusty 650 when I got it. I rode it for 10 years, before selling it to a friend. During that time I slowly brought it up to that level.

You CAN do that, too. It doesn't have to be all at once. Just add/replace/correct/ or clean one piece at a time. I don't give myself a time limit. When it get's there, it get's there.

I have seen threads like this in other forums as well. In order for it to run smoothly, the other forum had individuals send their pics, stories, etc, to one of the mods. He would compile the entries for the month of competition and post the pics with other info and the forum members user name. Limit was two pictures of each contestant.

    Perhaps two categories
    1. Stock
    2. Mods

If nobody else minds, then I will run the whole thing. The competition on the other forum I mentioned is organized by a regular member.

I think the competion should be left as XJ of the month, no sub-categories, just an all inclusive shoot-out.

Perhaps another rule being the bike must be in operable condition? kind of a joke if you can't even ride the bike that is being voted upon...lol.

another good rule I'd advise... You cannot vote for yourself!
