hey guys, ive been roaming through the site for a while now and cant seem to find what im lookin for just yet,, i was given an 83 maxim 750 by my uncle with aseized motor, i just recently purchased an 81 seca running but with no reggy.. I already swapped the motor in the maxim and now its not getting spark to the coil.. Coild should be good as they were on the seca.. Is there any wiring differences between the 2 bikes?

Any help would be greatly appreciated guys :)

TCI box is going to be different. Keep the TCI from the seca. This won't cause your no spark issue.

Test the coils according the manual. Also, check your ground wire (since that's usually bolted on the motor.

Is there another ground besides the negative to the batt? Also there are 2 grounds connected to the coils on the seca and only one on the maxim

That's the ground I was talking about, but come to think of it, if you are spinning the motor, it's probably not an issue. My battery negative terminal wire is bolted onto the engine.

Got spark! Just not when the starter is engaged... Could this be lack of fire or crossed wires somewheres?

have you had your battery load tested. A bad battery can cause your current symptoms, when you let off the button the motor still spins a bit but you aren't powering the starter so you get better spark and the bike starts.

Dont have a batt for it yet, i jut connected the booster cables to the batt cables just to see if everything was working.. The bike last seen the road in 02 so it still has a bit of work before i go get one ( wheel bearings, light bulbs ect)
