Complete part out - 82 XJ550

Pretty much everything is there except for the carbs and rear turn signals. I have carbs, but they are missing a couple of pieces right now. The front turn signal is missing the lens but is otherwise complete and the mounts for both right and left are intact.

Odometer has 17K on it.

Bike ran when parked. I was fixing some electrical problems and was going to put it back on the road, but am desperate for cash and, unfortunately, it is worth more as parts than as a whole. Gas tank used to look really nice with a custom metallic paint job, but has picked up a few scratches sitting around my garage, :-( I'll have to double check, but as I recall, the fuel tank had been coated/sealed against rust by a PO.

Can't tell you the compression numbers, but there didn't appear to be any problems when I parked it.

I do not have title to the frame, however, I verified through a couple of different databases that it was not reported stolen or totaled before I purchased it and I can provide a bill of sale which, along with a DMV inquiry, is enough in Ohio to apply for a court ordered title. Court cost is about $50 including parking. You show up, present the required documents to the judge, and walk out a few minutes later with a court order for DMV to issue you title. Bike was last registered in West Virginia but I was unable to get a hold of the title holder.

I will hopefully have pictures for interested parties tomorrow.

Make me an offer I can't refuse ... I need the cash and this week is supposed to be great weather to pull this thing apart.

Please note: This bike has not been cleaned. I have done nothing to dress it up. For the past year it has been on my patio covered by a tarp along with a couple of other bikes. I have the seat in the garage.

Several pictures of the fuel tank to show a) the paint job and b) the damage done to it in my garage. Someone skilled at painting could probably touch it up and have it like new. The best picture of the color is the one where the tank is upside down. The light made it turn kind of grey in the other ones.

What would you be asking for the speedo and tach.

 

Will the master cylinder fit a 650 maxim?

 

I have no idea.

Same size handlebars ... suggests fit there. Whether or not the 550 cylinder can power the 650 caliper? I couldn't and wouldn't guess.

The heat here has been unbearable and I have become far more sensitive to heat these past couple of years. If you are waiting for something from me, please be patient. The temp is supposed to drop 20 deg F on Sunday, so I should be able to get at it then.

One of the guards had a broken mount. I have a friend looking at it to see if he can weld it/fix it, but I haven't heard from him.

 

Flange? you mean the mounting ring that is on the header tubes? You would have to cut the pipe to get it off, wouldn't you?

I'll sell the header pipes as a set, the collector, and the pipes as a set or the whole thing as a complete unit, but I don't want to break up sets. That makes it too hard to sell the other pieces. Also, I believe that the header pipes. I will try to estimate condition and value tomorrow.
