I give... Where did they put the clutch switch on the 82 XJ650RJ? I don't have one on the clutch lever perch and I don't see one connected at the other end of the cable. I am trying to get her ready for the road again and I hate having to put her in neutral every time I want to start her up. The Haynes manual shows a clutch switch in the wiring diagram but not in the location diagram. Is there a miss print somewhere? :?:

Clutch switch is in the lever on my 83... and I'm pretty sure it was the same on my 82 (I think that's what you're talking about), everything else was EXACTLY the same... Closes when the lever is in, opens when it's out... same as the brake side.

Do you have an aftermarket controll?

Part #13 is the switch and wire. The switch snaps into the lever holder (part #11)

Well... It looks like I have an aftermarket clutch lever perch because there is no place to mount a switch like the one on the brake lever. I think I found the electrical connector for the switch in the headlight bucket. I am going to attempt to verify this by putting a temporary jumper in the connection to see if it will start in gear with the sidestand up. (It will be very temporary as I have witnessed a bike take off with out its rider when it was started in gear)
