Hi all, I was running the bike this morning after more carb fettling and it was a bit smokey and some backfires.

I checked the pipes and two hot (very) and two cold (very) so that explains whilst I had two wet pugs (another post) but would this explain why my two running cylinders were sooty?

    and

How/ where do I check the HT leads/ coils on the two none running/ cold cylinders?

I swapped the plugs on an earlier fire up and they seemed to work fine (the wet cylinders stayed the same and the sooty cylinders stayed the same also.

    so

where do I go from here?

    Thanks in advance

The coils fire two cylinders each.

One fires #1 and #4; the other fires 2/3.

Depending on whether or not the "cold" cylinders correspond to the above pairings will point you either to the coils themselves, or elsewhere.

The wet cylinderr are the two on the lhs as your sat on it, with the other two giving u sooty plugs. If not coil then what? As cold pipes and pants tickover suggested no spark on that side. It's a 1983 uk 750 ta

Like Petcocks and Fuse Panels, ... Coils will eventually become an issue for all of us to have to deal with.

To my way of thinking; the way that the Plug Cap is attached has something to do with the Breakdown's of these Coils.

Because the Plug Cap is Screwed into the Spark Plug Wire with a Self-Tapping Screw, ... the Sharp Ridges of the Thread eventually sever the Plug Wire Core, ... Eventually the Core erodes and the Resistance to great to provide Spark.

Sometime the Coil can be salvaged by the Infamous Coil Surgery, ... replacing the Wires.
The solution may be an Upgrade to New Coils.

Everyone who had made the conversion to aftermarket Coils seem to have eliminated the Misfire Bug from their complaint lists.

Hey Rickomatick where i can find those aftermarket coils, mines are in the limit right now and I found ones from a Honada CB 900 they're a little bit bigger than the ones in the maxim so I fixed them under the gas tank but still those were used...Thanks

    Probably right from chacal.

    DYNA High-Performance Ignition Coils.
Pop for the Mounting Kit, too.
The Mounting Kit will save you a lot of time getting them on the bike.
