I have an 82 650. I cleaned what came apart in the carbs, not sure if I missed anything with the brass tubes coming out of the carb body. I'm hoping someone can direct me based on symptoms.

Bike starts well. Has been synched, float height set.

Problem: good response to 4k. Acceleration slows, but continues to climb. When I hold the throttle for a while above 4k, get to 5-6k, then let off the throttle a bit, it wants to get up and go for a second. Seems to be flooding a bit, but plugs look fine. Maybe it can`t keep enough fuel.? Anyone got a guess where to go with these symptoms.

    Thanks in advance.

Sounds like pilot jets are enrichment circuit pass ok, but your main jet/passages aren't doing great? But that's unlikely. Maybe diaphragm issues/piston hanging... There's something known colloquially around here as the 'clunk test': You take the piston out and remove all obstructions, and drop it down the cylinder it fits in. It should clunk straight down to the bottom. I have a video of a carb rebuild that includes a clip of what is meant by this if you can't figure it out.

What are your mixture screws at? Colortune? Plug color? (idle/plug chop?)

I will try a wet float setting test, and check for clunk. They felt pretty smooth. By 4k they should be pretty open. Thanks for the thoughts.
