What other tanks (other brands welcome) will fit a 1985 700 maxim not x with minor to no modification? My tank had a coating inside that is peeling badly. Unless there is a way to remove the coating, and rust and recoat with POR15?
I am not sure acid will remove that stuff.

Sounds like the tank was Kreemed. Is it white-ish in color? MEK will remove it, Lowes or Home Depot should have it. Its nasty stuff so wear appropriate protection. Do a search for Kreem removal on the web. Then order a Caswell Tank Coating kit. Its 2 part epoxy bassed, its not gonna peel unless you don't follow the prep directions.

MEK = methyl ethyl ketone, a very strong chemical. I know that Eastwood and POR15 sell stuff that is supposed to remove tank coatings.

MEK - because that's all the space for a name after all the warnings on the last can I bought. Good stuff and it will eat just about anything. At my local HD it's up on the top shelf of the paint section.
