    Hello all,
So I changed the brunches in my alternator and now my battery won't charge.
I checked it at about 2500 rpm's and I'm getting 11.9. If I take it upto 4500 it reads 12.00 never any higher.. I was under the impression I should be reading 14 or so. I had to get a bump start the other day. It was 95deg out after a 40 minute ride. Can any one point me in the right direction?

Was it charging(or trying) before you replaced the brushes?
Start by checking the wiring connections to each charging system component, voltage regulator, stator and rotor. If the connections are clean and tight test each part. Any service manual will show you how.

Did you lean the surfaces the brushes ride on?

Oh I think he was reffering to useing an eraser on the com surface to clean it. most guys use real fine wet or dry sand paper like 1000 grit

I would re-check the brushes, one may be stuck or broke when you put it back together. And clean the commutator (copper rings that the brushes ride on).

    Hi.
Ok after fixing the searing bearing I looked into the brushes, commutator ring
All are clean. After a ride to and from work 10 miles each way. Home on the highway. I get home and no juice. The batttey was new last year but I got it at Walmart. Not sure how long it sat there. Does any one have the factory book they can scan and email me the specific charging-system diagnostic procedure?
    Any help would be appreciated.

Ok. So I changed the brushes back to the old ones and all is better.
I'm not sure why the new one didnt work but it's ok for the summer.
I just want to ride. I'll call Z1 and see what they say. I don't think I'll be buying from them any more. We'll see

Question: When you changed the brushes, did you replace the actual brushes or did you change the brush holder loaded with new brushes?
If you replaced the brushes, did they have a flat contact on the end or did you solder them in to the brush holder?

They look fine, guess it doesn't matter since its working now. Maybe something was touching that wasn't supposed to. LOL Glad it's working for you.
