Ok ok ok, initially I came on for some questions and didn't plan on being around here very much, but I must say there is such a wealth of knowledge and information available that it's illogical not to!

I'm Mike. I can't honestly say that I sought out an XJ for any specific reason. It just happens that I found one for cheap - a 1985 Maxim X 750. To think that 3 weeks ago I had never sat on a motorcycle in my life... In fact, I learned in the back yard at a friend's house (he's got 3+ acres). We took his ride-on mowers and cut an oval track with a large and small figure 8, and I mastered it and hit the road (but I'll make sure to take the next safety course ;) ). But I digress...

So far, it's been a great experience. I've come to love the bike, quirkiness and all. It's missing some parts, and somebody thought it would be cool to put pods on it. It looks cool, but that's about it. I wonder if it's been rejetted? The thing is fast as hell to say the least!

Anyhow, I don't have much else to say other than I'm glad to be part of the club now, and happy that there are so many who are enthusiastic about these bikes. I'm looking forward to many years of enjoyment!

    Mike

Very nice, Mike. I have a friend in Calgary that used to ride a Maxim like that, he's still sad he sold it. Doubt he'll give up his Boulevard, but once an XJ person, always an XJ person.

Congrats Mike, I can remember many, many, MANY years ago when I also learned how to ride on the dirt roads of a friends farm. Taking off, shifting up thru the gears, coming to a turn, grabbing a handful of front brake, picking myself and the bike back up from that front brake thing, slowly learning....the 1st ride on the street......amazing feeling.....

Take the course.....you'll be a better rider for it.....and don't just listen around here, contribute too.....that way we don't have to read the same guys over and over<LOL>!!

welcome mike, just brought an xj myself and the forum has been a great help. Sounds good mate, hitting the road after a quick spin in the garden, you have to jump through hoops to ride in the uk.Enjoy your bike and have fun working on it. :D
