ANy ideas on what this is...? Maybe a leak between the carbs and intake??

You need to check for a vacuum leak. Take an unlit propane tourch and flood the area around the carbs. If the idle picks up you found the general area where it is leaking

what about if the intake is off and the carbs are free and open? I know thats not right but Im wondering if I can still check for a leak with the intake off

Tell me something, looking through the sight glass, have you noticed the level rising above the full mark?

"Used to." Was that when it still HAD the intake boots and airbox? Did this just start when you took everything off the inlet side of the carbs?

adrian1: no I jsut changed the oil and its been fine at the top with a bubble after about 5 mins of rest after riding...
bigfitz: no the air intake on this bike was in pieces and chunks of the plastic were laying at the bottom of the airbox, ready to fly into my carbs...I took the entire airbox of and boots off figureing they were old and worn and falling apart (which they were after closer inspection)...at first my choke worked fine and reved up the bike until i took choke off and it went down to 1050rpm just like its supposed to, now all I hear is a hissing and the bike sort of bogs...it doesnt die but you can hear it bog out like its tryn to choke but maybe too much air or IDK????

Do you now have pods or no filter? If your carbs are open to the air that hissing sound is vacuum into the cylinder. And your jetting is off due to the intake difference.

Then search this site on how to make them work. Yours are not working correctly with the jetting in your carbs.

I ask about the oil level because you can smell gas in the oil. I suggest you check if fuel is coming from tap when bike not running...

He's talking about the fuel valve and a needle not sealing and fuel overflowing the bowls and into the engine.

I just found out that my battery isnt recharging and probably isnt giving the bike enough JUICE to start her over....heard that the starters on these bikes are really power hungry and unless you have 12.5 all day then the starter will rob the bike of spark and wont fire up.....

    Very true.

But if your oil is polluted with gasoline you really don't want to be firing it up.

You have an old bike with a compound set of issues right now. You need to get these things straightened out before you hurt it; it IS going to take a bit of work before it's truly rideable.

I strongly suggest you get a service manual so we can better help you with these things.

check the clamps around the intake boots. They could be loose and with out the air box the carbs may be sagging.
