Hit a really bumpy sectionof road as I approached a stop sign. Bike shut off and now it won't start. Obvisouly something shook/broke loose.

When I push the start button I hear a clicking at the battery, but it does not turn over.

Any ideas at where to start? I don't see anything obviously disconnected.

I've had this happen. Pop your seat and make sure the fuses are seated properly.

Starter solenoid and/or starter. Check the cable connections first to see if they are tight.
jump the solenoid terminals with a pair of pliers and see if the starter turns. If it does then you have a bad solenoid if not then you have a bad starter. Of course make sure the battery is charged first. I would also check the fuses to make sure nothing else came loose.

OK, complete Newb/dunce here. How does one "jump the solenoid terminals with a pair of pliers."

Battery is fine. Fuses are good and tight.

OK, I think I know what you mean. Tried that. No results.

The solenoid is working. I can hear the slicking coming from it.

Would the starter be the problem since the bike was running when I hit the bumps and it just shut off?

no sounds like you may have broken a ground wire back to battery. check all ground wires

Seems like I had a compound problem - bike shutting off on the bumps (unknown). Restarting the bike = a starter problem - thanks to a friend with some old school mechanic skills. Tap the starter with a hammer and tada!

Iffy connection inside the TCI, perhaps? Might not hurt to open the puppy up and check the solder joints.

Cool. Now you're an expert at diagnosing the starter. :D

Figures it was the starter but you still have the shutting off problem. I would not ignore that one it could leave you stranded sometime. Put the bike on the center stand and start it. Go through the all the wiring connections and wiggle them to see if you can find that loose connection. It could be anywhere.
