As luck would have it, reproductions of the graphics (cowling, side covers, tank, and tailpiece) appear available for the 81 and 83 models, but not the 82. I DID find the graphics for sale in another country for the cowling and tail piece, but not the others.

My question, therefore, is do I:

    1) Do my best to paint these on myself with some spray paint and a homemade stencil?

    2) Make the stencils myself and do all the taping, and have a bodyshop apply the paint and clear coats?

    3) Some other option I'm not thinking about?

I've restored the rest of the bike to stock, so, would like to keep with that theme. I've love to hear from someone who has already tackled this.

If you've found reproductions for the USA-market 1983 (black w/scarlet and maroon flashes) 550 Seca, I'd like to know where. I've been working with a graphics place to get some made, but so far the project has not come to fruition (color issues.)

Decals for the original 1981 scheme are available (white w/red flashes.)

THERE ARE "reproduction" sets for the 1982 models out there; but they're wrong. The silver is "off" and the black "highlights" are too prominent and incorrectly shaped. I think there is another "version" of the '82 graphics to be had; I'll have to check my resources when I get home.

Sorry Fitz - I stand corrected. I went looking for those 83's, and cannot locate them anymore. My guess is that I mistook the 650 ones for the 550 ones.

Even if the 82 ones you've seen are off a bit, I could probably live with it; let me know if you can still locate them in someone's inventory.

    Thanks as always!

I can't believe that the 1982 Seca 550 decals would be hard to accurately reproduce. I've had some very complex vintage snowmobile decals repopped and while they were expensive they turned out nicely. The '82 decals seem very simple in comparison.

Thanks a lot Rice. At least you only needed 1 graphic.

The prices for them on that site have gone up a lot in 3 years. :(

    Ugh!

Yeah, and three years later, I still need one.

Good luck with the hunt, and please let us know if you turn up anything good, OK?

    Hi Folks
It seems that a lot of the Seca parts are used for the RD-2 350LC and the tank decal on te RD looks almost identical, but the side panels may need some tinkering.......but it is do-able with a good sharp model knife. Have a look:
