Hi everyone, first time post, but I've been reading for a long while. I have a 1982 yamaha xj650 maxim. Doing my seasonal oil change, like many of the other threads I read, I had issues with the oil filter bolt. I got it off with no problems, but my socket got stuck on the bolt. When I got it off, I noticed the head was pretty rounded so I didnt want to put it back in. I ordered a new bolt, with a larger head from ebay (first mistake). It said it would fit all Yamaha XJ650 650 Maxim Seca Oil Filter Bolt Large 17mm Head 1980-83 models. Anyway, it came, and it is longer than my original bolt. I emailed the guy and asked if he sent the correct bolt. He did not respond yet, and I'm getting sick of waiting. I dont want to try and put it in, and have it not seal properly, and lose all my new oil. I'm attaching a photo of both bolts, the one on the right is my old one, the one on the left, is the new one. Can anyone confirm or deny if it will work? Thanks for helping me out!

Don't think that one will work. It ilooks like one for the XJ/XS1100, they take a bigger oil filter.

yea I think mlew is right man looks like for an xs1000 that would explain your salesmans non-response...he probably realized that the bolt was wrong and doesnt wanna mess around...If I were you Id pay the postage to send it back to his ass and get your right bolt...

Thanks guys, appriciate the feedback. he finally got back to me, and wanted me to verify the length. it was a 1/4 inch too long. He said he isnt sure how that happened, thought maybe it was too a honda. Anyway, he sent the correct one right away with some money to send the other back, so all in all not to bad of an occurance, just missing out on a few more days of riding but its been days of crazy thunder storms anyway so no loss. You were all right, thanks a ton!
