Head and Valve Cover Gasket Sealant, RTV, Adhesive, etc.

    I'm refitting my head. Surfaces polished shiny. Do I need any kind of gasket sealer or maker, etc? Can I just use the new OEM gasket alone?
    Same question for the new valve cover gasket.
    Any particular location or side to apply or other tips are appreciated.

    For the Cases:
    Yamaha Bond "Yamabond"

    Lower End:
    Indian Head Gasket Shellac
    Permatex High-Tack Spray-a-Gasket

    Cylinder Head;
    Permatex High-Tack Spray-a-Gasket (high temp. Copper)

    Flange Donuts:
    Permatex High Temp Spray a Gasket

    Valve Cover:
    Oil cleaned mating surfaces.
    Designed to be "Sealant-free".

    Can you elaborate on what you mean by cases and donuts?

    For lower end, do you mean the cylinder base? And are you saying either of those are fine, or both are needed? (I'm not removing the cylinder jugs, but it would be good to know.)

    For the head, should I put the spray everywhere on both sides of the gasket?

    Also, I found "Permatex High Tack Spray-A-Gasket Sealant," and "Permatex Cooper Spray-A-Gasket Hi-Temp Adhesive Sealant.". Don't mean to be picky, just making sure I'm not missing something or getting confused, but I don't see anything that is both high tack and high temp in the name. So which one should I look for? Based on you're other recommendations and the Permatex website, it seems the high temp copper is for the head (again, though, it's not high tack, too).

    The Cases are the Large Sections of the Engine that are mated when an overhaul is performed.

    High-tack --> Use to prevent leaks.
    High-temp --> Use where Heat is a factor.

    Donuts: Circular Gaskets used to prevent exhaust leaks where Head Pipes meet Cylinder Head.
