    Hi folks. :)

We recently took possession of a 1980 Yamaha XJ650J Maxim against money owed to us that was otherwise uncollectable. The debt far exceeds what we will be able to recover from parting out this motorcycle, but I suppose it beats not getting paid back at all. (Avoid business dealings with friends or family .. lesson learned!)

The bike runs with one little exception - it's stuck in first gear. And 1st gear is sortof jammed. It was used as a commuter bike daily until 6 months ago when the tranny went afunk. I'll be posting pics of everything soon. But here's a primer-list:

** The Lump... we will part it out in the manner of starter, generator, complete head, case w/trans-clutch-crank-rods-pistons, carbs, case covers, and so forth.
** Stock airbox with the chrome side pieces (chrome still looks good, no pits).
** Fuel Tank. No dents, and has been internally coated with a thick clear epoxy of sorts. You can see right through the coating into the metal beneathe it.
** Front end - looks really good. Left side is weaping but what 30+ year old forks don't need seals?
** Both wheels with tires. Straight, no kinks. Tires have about 50% left.
** Left side airbox cover with the "MAXIM" badge on it.
** Aftermarket seat - not sure what the heck it is. Needs a bit of stitching on the left-front corner where it touches the fuel tank.
** Clocks .. the instruments on this bike look really good. Lenses aren't messed up and the chrome cups look great.
** Front fender .. totally undented and chrome looks great.
** Rear fender with tail light.
** All four turn signals. Lenses are so-so but the stems are 100%.
** Igntion switch with key and dork-lights.
    ** Full electricals.
** Headlight and bucket .. GREAT shape, chrome still looks really good.
** Frame and swingarm with clear title.
    ** Rear drive unit.
** Those "mini" crash bars - one on each side. Need to be rechromed or otherwise painted.
** Headers (mufflers are total crap).
    ** Rear grab bar.
** All of the other stuff that is on a fully equipped motorcycle (footpeg brackets, various other incidentals, brake rotor, rear backing plate, rear brake pedal, stock rear shocks, and so on).

As I said, pics to follow soon. PM me if you're interested in something and I'll take pics of that part right away and forward them to you.

We've done NO work to this bike, jsyk. We only recently aquired it (like just a few days ago).

    Thanks ... Abeja.

    Where are you located?

Also, have you considered fixing the bike and selling it whole? It sounds like the springs inside the shift mechanism may have snapped. If that is the case, replacing all three springs would cost less than $20 in parts and could help you recover funds as a complete bike (quicker than parting it out).

How much in total do you need to recover?

Would you consider selling the bike whole (kind of ties into the above question)?

Finally, depending on the seat I am interested.

Sorry I haven't been keeping up. My husband's mom had a mini-stroke and we've been chasing our tails trying to juggle everything. She is a widow and relies on us to help her out.

Anyhow .... I'm presently PMing everyone that has asked about stuff. :)

Thanks ... (got my hands kinda full)

    Abeja .. :)
