    Hey y'all. Got a question for you learned gents. Will the header pipes from a
    1981 Yamaha XJ 650 Maxim, fit on an '82 750 Maxim? One of my headers has already been patched, and the others are "soft". I can get the 650's for $40, good deal if they'll fit. Thanks in advance.

    I'm gonna say more likely than not. They should be the same from the head to where they meet the collector, but from there the exhausts are different. So not positive but yes.

    Unfortunately, probably not.

    The 750s have a full "collector box" system;

    the early 650s ('80~'81) have a crossover-pipe system that's quite different.

    Exhaust from a 650 will not be the same as a 750. Better to find same for same if possible. Buy the 650 pipes and use them to trade for the ones you are looking for. There are a lot of 650 guys looking for those.

    Thanks guys. I went to the Yamaha site and the numbers don't all match. I mean the numbers for the 750 are (example) 5G2-14611-00-00, and the 650 start with different letters and end with-02-00. The numbers in the middle are the same though for all 4 pipes. Thank you RickCoMatic for the link. Also I'm bobbing it and I 'm thinking about a 2 into one on both sides. Thanks again to everybody.

    Just throw some other info into the mix--

    If 'you' happen to do a 750 engine swap into a 650 frame, 'you' need to retain the original 650 exhaust system. What THAT boils down to, is that if YOU are going to look at putting 650 exhaustpipes on your bike, you're also going to need the 650 collector box, and probably the 650 mufflers, as well. (Which also goes along with what others said), however, the issue there would be ''where do the muffler-to-footpeg-mounts fall''. It may be possible to use the 750 mufflers, for the slant look, but either way you go, you'll probably have to make some small brackets to to from the muffler mount hole to the frame mount for them.

    Guy's, I guess it's my fault for not being clearer. I just wanted to know if they would bolt up to the block. I'm joining two on each side into one right where the down tubes bend backwards. No collector box, and where the center pegs used to be it'll be a straight, slash cut pipe with a muffler on each side. Sorry, my bad. Mojo
