82 xj750 seca project

    Purchased this bike last year for 200 bucks. Supposedly its a running bike. The guy I got it from was replacing the carb boots and broke a bolt off in the block and tried to drill the bolt out. While doing so he chipped away at the aluminum. I still have that to work on but this is it so far.

    So Jim, one quick question here:

    How much time, effort and money are you going to put into it before you find out if it actually runs? And shifts, and stays in 2nd gear?

    We've had more than one member sink all sorts of resources into a "build" only to discover that the motor or trans had a major problem. I'd hate to see it happen yet again.

    Yea, I know doing the build before knowing if it even runs is almost pointless but I guess we'll see once I get to that point. Theres another 750 on craigslist that just has stuck floats I may pick up for a spare engine/tranny swap if needed.

    I know its been a while but I havent had much time to work on the bike. I work on it here and there after work since I have it at my shop. But this is whats done so far.

    Made this tail light bracket

    Finished up the frame and finally got the carbs mounted.

    Made a headlight bracket and mounted a headlight

    Got my seat mounted and added drag bars. Moving across the country so work will begin on it again in a few weeks.
