Hey everyone I've got a 1985 XJ700, I'm very happy with it but I have a few concerns and questions.
The bike is very tight but at highway speeds (55-75) the bike seems to be revving it's heart out because it runs so high. I did some research from this website and some other sites too. I found it's just because of the gearing and there is nothing wrong with my bike. Is it bad for the bike to cruise at 75-80 for hours at a time?

Also how does the handling and accelleration of this bike compare with other cruisers and sportbikes? How does it compare to: the older cruisers, the newer cruisers, the late nineties 600cc sportbikes?

    Thanks everyone!
    Joe

That is completely normal and this bike loves to rev. I use mine daily, rain or shine. I run 80-85 at about 5500 to 6000 twice daily. I have run 105 while 2 up riding with about 8500 on the tach.

mmh sweet. I'm happy there is nothing to worry about. It just seemed so funny to me because I've never heard of anything with that high of revs for a sustained amount of time. Thanks I really appreciate it! :)

Stick a Oil Cooler on it. Most any of the '80's Oil Cooled Models will work-out for a donor cooler with a minimum of plumbing and mounting bracket fabrication.

I stuck a 900 cooler on my 750 ... I know she'll run great for long hauls with the Speedo pegged.

Running North from Massachusetts up into Maine takes you on I-95N. When you are the guy runnin' 80 up into Maine.

You're the guy backing things up.
You need to be able to sustain 80 ... between fuel-up's on 95 North.
