Very cool, i checked out DCC's website and there are a few choices that i like, but ultimately i think i'll end up with the 17" reverse cone style, i just love that look. A video or sound file would be awesome, i'd love to hear how they sound. Again, great job on both bikes

Which acewell did you use? How did you set the rev counter up for our wasted spark system?

Awesome looking machine almost making me give up on mine cos it'll never be that good.

This is somewhat puzzling. Being a four stroke you would set the tach at 2 rpm's per spark. Being a wasted spark system you would set the tach at 1 rpm's per spark. I have mine set at .5 rpm per spark and seams to be working fine. Still playing with how many wraps around the plug wire. I also had to play with the speedometer. Had my son ride next to me and I kept adjusting the numbers until it was right.

Thanks for the info. Looks like the acewell is the best option.

Amazing build! Truly my kind of bike! :D

That color makes the tank look perfect! Knee dents/cut-outs looks exactly like they should with that color.

Is the tank badge an OEM article?

hey man, love it. wish there were more of u cafe guys here. just a note from personal experience. i saw you had the voltage regulator under the seat.... this same design (flaw) left me stranded after the first 300 miles because it got so hot it cooked. they get really hot and need to be in the open no matter how it coflicts with the clean naked look we all desire. maybe you will have better luck with it tho. cheers

hey i am doing something with 81 550 maxim.Im stuck on the wiring because from the looks of it i cut the same things you did. Only yours works and mine doesn't, is there a diagram you used to take out what you didn't want and still complete the circuit? Bike looks great, thanks for all the pictures.

I am an electrical engineer so I just sort of did it in my head. If you let me know what part and the wiring you are struggling with I can draw it up real quick and post it for you.

Well thats the thing, I have already cut a lot out and while I'm not blowing fuses and my tail light will work, I'm not getting any spark out of my coils. I want to rewire it myself and basically create my own circuit that just has a headlight and a tail/brake light. I think where i am at now is there is some safety circuit, i.e. the kickstand or neutral light, that I am no getting right so my thoughts were to create my own circuit, if possible, and basically hot wire my bike. any thoughts?

So I jus rewired the 550 using the minimal wiring diagram I found on another forum. Everything is looking great, the headlight works, the brake and tail light work but I'm still not getting spark to the motor through the coils. Is there a way to check and see if my coils are shot? The whole bike works minus spark from the coils haha. thanks for your help

I got it at Dime City Cycle. I would not call it comfy. If you are planning on your bike being your daily driver, add padding or look at something else.
