Got my bike out of storage and having problems getting running. Before storage changed oil and put in new plugs (wasn't getting spark from one) and ran only about 10 miles. It seamed to run fine maybe in need of some carb tuning.

Now the bike won't run enough to do any thing but idle. I pulled the plugs and their covered in soot. Checked the resistance on the coils and here is what I have...
---on both of the plugs to the harness leads 3.1 and 2.9

both sets of "plug wires" are reading

    --- with caps 29.28k omhs and 28.3 k omhs
-----with caps off both are right around 12k omhs

Do I need need new coils or just new caps? should they be giving rughly 7k omhs resistance thru the caps?

If new coils are needed what are the least expensive (money is tight right now) and easest to fit to the bike?

    Thanks
    Matt

Your coils appear to be within spec...give or take.

On the primary side, stock coils should read about 2.7 Ohms. The commonly used replacement coils we use are Dyna Coils DC1-1 which are 3 Ohms. On the secondary side, stock coils without plug caps should be 11 - 12 kOhms.

You may consider replacing the plug caps. On their own they should be 5 kOhms, maybe going up to about 8 kOhms. Overall though I don't see anything earth shattering with your readings.

Just unplug the coils from the wiring harness and swap-'em over to see if a different hole won't fire.

If you have set the Pilot Mixtures OUT to Three Turns. Bottom them and bring them OUT to 1.75 (One and three-quarters).

The MIKUNI Pilot Mixture Screws on the 900 are "Stepped" differently from the HITACHI's ... the OUT that everybody is ColorTuning OUT to be in the "Three-area" ... is Solid info -- for Hitachi -- maybe not the right call for the Big-Mix on the nine-hunnit!

Anyone thought to take a look in the airbox? During your machines hybernation, little critters have been known to take up residence and foul up the works. Just a thought.

I did check the air box for critters. no nests or even spider webs. I going to try to adj the carbs to 1 1/2 out and see if that make a difference.
