    Hi Guys,

I have an 82 XJ 550 Maxim which I picked up a few months ago in a pretty bad way.

I had planned to get her safe and running well this year with a mind to bobbing her maybe next year.

Just got the tank fix and resprayed, completely refurbished the carbs, done the brakes and valve shims and was about to get the chain of to clean up and inspect but have run aground.....

The swing arm bolt will simply not come out! I have heated it, soaked it with WD40 for a couple of days and hit it hard with a sledge hammer (so yes, now it is damaged) but it wont budge!)

Parts are so difficult to get in the UK that I am wondering whether to take this as the nudge to bring forward the bobber plans and just cut the bloody swing arm off!

Could anyone point me to a good thread or two on hard tailing a 550 Maxim?

I don't have any welding know how and would need to do this on a shoe string budget.

    Many thanks,

    Stu'cross the pond
