Choke cable mounting Rack Question

I am short one choke cable mounting bracket on carb number 3. i was wondering if any one would know where to get one. or where to make one or a substitute. It sucks to have to reach under the bike with big gloves and hold the choke lever up till the bike starts and warms up. you might wonder where the the mounting bracket would go........i wonder the same thing. the guy i bought it from had some one work on the carbs for him. and they didnt bother screwing it back on.

 

Most of those brackets mount using two of the hat screws.

See if chacal has one or can help you at least get a part number; if he doesn't have the part but you can get a pn, post it and I'll see what I can find.

Do you have a pic of how your XJ550 choke cable attaches to the bracket on the carbs (assuming you have Mikuni's). Either my cable is too short, or i'm missing a small part to get the correct angle to the carb choke lever on my 81 XJ550. I have an xj750 but it has a different setup.

I don't believe theat the 550 Mik's use a choke cable bracket on the #3 carb; the cable holding bracket is on the #1 carb:

#1 carb hat front, left and right: HCP5181 choke cable bracket
#2 carb hat font and rear, inner side: HCP5490 throttle cable bracket
#3 carb hat rear, inner side: HCP5201 fuel hose clip bracket
NOTE: clutch cable and vac hose clips not used on 550's

 

Think I figured it out. I have all choke cable bracket; the one off the carb hat and the pinch screw to grab the cable. The problem is the lever mounted to the choke shaft linkage is vertical. I saw that other models have that mounting lever horizonal, which would allow the cable to reach closer to the pinch mount.
I think if I unscrew all the 4 set screws on this shaft, it should allow me to rotate the linkage arm to a horizonal position and then re tighten set screws.
