i want to buy these shocks here, and i believe I've seen a few xj'ers use the same ones, but these say they are for a honda, but i believe i can just pull out those shims and stuff the stock ones in right?

I've seen "yamaha specific" shocks of the same model but they are 12' or 10.5 ect. i don't want my bike any lower cause I'm already close to having seat rubbing problems now

also another question. i have an LED taillight. its dual filament. so its always "on" then gets even brighter when braking. and i went to start the bike up today, and it wasn't turning or anything, almost like i had a dead battery but i did not. i look down and see smoke coming out from under my seat, my taillight wire was buying/melting. i unplugged immediately. then the bike started? like this short was causing the bike not to start. I'm not so good at electrical things, but i think it was getting to much power? leds don't need 12v running through them if I'm not mistaken. so any help on that would be great

those shocks will be fine as long as you have room for the canister, the shims as u call them (actually grommets) will most likely interchange but the will more likely bolt right on.

now it comes down to inches, if you have the stock shocks and your seat is rubbing they are either not adusted right, totally shot or you are a heavy dude. either way you need new hocks and will notice a vast improvement in handling and comfort, i say go for it but make sure the canisters will fit.

your light sounds like a short, track down the hot wire and check the casing, thats my bet.

    this scares me

" The brand new pair of air shock absorbers fits most 125cc 150cc 200cc 250cc 300cc Scooter Gokart Moped Quad and ATV."

I have seen a number of people put these on bikes and I like the look but I have yet to see someones year or longer review.

I would look for shocks rated for your 650, although a 300 atv probably weighs the same. Ask the seller for the max weight capacity of the shocks.

Definitely a short either in the tail light or the wiring to it.

I have these exact shocks on my 650. They are a stiff ride, but work great. I am tho hoping that after they get broken in they will soften up just a hair. I am roughly 300 miles into them. I did have to do a lil grinding to get them to fit with that reservoir. Check the link in my sig to see where I had to grind.

I have since peeled of the blue RFY sticker, the solid gold looks alot better.

Here's the same thing, but much cheaper....

EDIT_ sorry, the above shocks, by the same seller are shorter.....

Be forewarned, these may be pure junk....or they may function as advertized but whenever making such drastic changes in frame geometry, always take the time to do some "controlled" testing like in a school lot where you don't have traffic to contend with. Start slow and try straight line, increasing in speed till it safely reaches 60 or 70(ok, maybe not in the school year but you get the idea).....then at 30, induce a wobble and see how it reacts....better to find out now then in traffic at 70mph.

I just sucessfully installed a nearly brand new BMW shock on my Vstrom 1000. Many on the forum poo poo'ed the idea but it worked perfectly and now my bike rides better then new....and instead of spending 600-1100 dollars, it cost me exactly $102.60 !!

    good luck,
    jeff
