82 xj750j. I was noticing an exhaust leak on the bottom of my header pipes just prior to exhaust junction. There appear to be 4 bosses. R these supposed to be open or r there supposed to be a cap screw/bolt in those. Secondly. What does sintered mean in relation to front brake pads. And lastly. How long of a job is it to change rear brake pads. Thanks. Bill

Those little bosses on the bottom of each headpipe are the EGA ports; and they're supposed to all be plugged with a small bolt/washer.

"Sintered" means they're full of little bits of metal.

Actually changing the rear shoes takes maybe 15 minutes, including cleaning the inside of the drum, backing plate, etc.

The bigger job is getting the rear wheel off to begin with. THAT may take a bit longer.

There is one boss on each down pipe right in front of the main exhaust collection box. They are used to sample exhaust gasses for carb tuning, typically only done at a dealer. They are plugged with a bolt and washer.

Slintered is a process of making podwered metal into a solid by pressing it together. The slintered material for brake pads is a brass/bronze mixture. Great stopping power but hard on brake rotors. For general riding stay with the OEM type organic pads, they last longer and don't wear out rotors as fast.

Your XJ750 has brake shoes in the rear, not pads. It will require removal of the wheel. It is a easy job , under normal conditions should take less than 2 hours even if you have never done it before. 45 minutes if have done a few.

If you don't have a service manual, get one. It will show you how.
