    Hello everyone,

I just changed both my tires on my XJ. After putting the tires back on, my rear brake is not working at all. I have adjusted the arm and the rod several different ways. No matter what I do, the brake pedal will go way down and the tire will not stop moving at all. I just ordered new shoes yesterday, but my brakes were at least stopping my tire before the tire change.

Is it possible I did something wrong when re-installing the tire and brakes? Just seems odd that there is zero friction now.

I had something that looked like that. The splines on the cam were broken and the lever just spun. See if the cam is turning.

It's pretty simple mechanism...most likely JP is correct, but you're still going to have to pull it apart.

No, the splines are set and the rod rotates with the arm. Gonna have to pull it.

Then there is something wrong with the shoes. There isn't really a way to install the cam wrong and still be able to attach the lever to it.

I figured as much. I have new shoes arriving sometime this week, but I still have to be able to ride til then. So, I shall do some investigating to see if I can get 'em working for the next few days.

pull the lever on the drum by hand. its hard to pull but you should be able to get the brakes to drag a little. if not then your problem is in the drum...
